Application of Role-playing for At-risk Youth in School

Abstract
This study aimed to confirm the positive influences of role-playing frequently used not only in counselling but also in education fields, on school adjustment problems and emotional difficulties of middle school students. 31 female students were selected from ¡Û¡Û middle school in S-gu, D-city who were considered to have school adjustment problems and emotional difficulties seriously. Subjects were divided into 3 groups. 4semi-structured role-playing sessions were performed for each group. As results, the students, participated in role-playing showed some improvements but statistically not significant in school adjustment with learning activity, school regulation, peer-relationship and relationship with teachers, and emotional areas including concentration, aggression, physical symptoms, social withdrawal and depression. Even though the results were not statistically significant, what the subjects said showed some kind of possibility that role-playing would be one of effective methods to help middle school students solve their difficulties in their school adjustment.
